The Pilates method was developed by Joseph H. Pilates during the 1920s and has evolved into a unique exercise regime that incorporates breath, movement, and control. Pilates was designed to create strength and balance beginning with proximal core muscles and extending outward toward more distal structures. Pilates can transform your body through core strength and stability and has proven to be an excellent tool for the rehabilitation of injuries as well as for injury prevention.
In Home Therapy
In home therapy can be used to speed recovery from injury, rehabilitate after surgery, or to improve general strength and conditioning for an improved quality of life. Home based therapy allows individuals to develop independence with daily activities in a comfortable setting. Families are also able to be involved in the rehabilitation process.
Physical therapy may be applicable for someone experiencing issues with loss of balance, reduced activities of daily life, joint pain, and difficulty in walking. Others may wish to take preventative measures by allowing a physical therapist to analyze their home environment, and focus on prevention of injury, and assist in the recommendation of household accommodations.
Strength and Conditioning Classes
Balance, coordination and strength are vital components of longevity, the sense of well being and for the maintenance of activities of daily life. I have designed a class that incorporates Pilates, core strengthening, functional movement, and weight training in an effort to improve balance and strength for the entire body. Breathing, and control will be incorporated into all movements for a lasting effect that will alleviate stress, and create a lasting sense of peacefulness and balance.
I am committed to helping my clients and patients rehabilitate injuries, enhance performance, and achieve personal fitness goals. I am prepared to assist clients in pre rehabilitative efforts to strengthen and train in a way that prevents injuries, as well as to help those recovering from injury, and returning patients back to their desired sport. Through functional movement analysis I will be able to devise a program that is individualized to my client and will lead to the attainment of personal goals.
When we are injured, or we are experiencing pain, we are suffering. Cultivating mindfulness can help us to overcome this suffering. There are various ways to meditate and find peace within our minds. The ability to relax the mind and become centered, can help reduce pain, free us from the emotional attachment to pain, and to improve our overall mind body connection.
I currently participate in The Traditional Pilates Method teacher training program. I have developed the Anatomy portion of the course to instruct Pilates student teachers in the musculoskeletal system and how it can be applied to Pilates. I use Pilates as a rehabilitation tool as well as for strength and conditioning. I am working to further develop specific specialty courses which can assist Pilates instructors in working with clients who may be recovering from an injury.
